About Connie

Hi!

My name is Connie and I have lived and worked in York for 12 years. Originally from Driffield, East Yorkshire, I started life here as a History of Art student at the University of York, but the city was too great to leave and I now work here as a manager in museums and heritage.

Having been surrounded with art by my dad from a young age, I’ve always drawn and painted, however university meant I put this on the back burner until 2020 and the unexpected arrival of lockdown!

Stuck inside and, like many others, struggling, I finally picked up my pencils again and began drawing. One sketch led to another, and before I knew it my friend’s brother was buying a piece from me after spotting it in a zoom quiz! I’ve been at it ever since, creating and selling art via word or mouth and commission.

My artwork, created in watercolour and pen and ink, takes inspiration from local landscapes and architecture. I love simple and stripped back images, replicating the feel of travel sketches. I enjoy creating images which are rooted to memories and capture details that, no matter how often I have seen something, have never noticed before! This might be a decorative sculptural detail, or a sign of historic change over time.

Now, at 30, I am finally putting my work out there online and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy creating it!
