A special commission!

Most of my sales are through personalised commissions, each one unique to the client. While I love creating work to sell more widely, it’s commissions that I find the most fun as I work to lots of different briefs. Lately I have finished one to create 7 bespoke paintings for a lovely couple for their wedding day!

Since the bride and groom to be lived local to me, we met at the pub for a drink and to discuss their plans. While they knew they wanted paintings with personal meaning, they weren’t sure how to incorporate them into the wedding as table settings. So, I suggested that they keep the originals, and we create prints of the paintings onto postcards where they could share their personal memories with family and friends on the back…..they loved it, so that’s what we did.

Now cut to me back home and the sudden panic that I had to create 7 bespoke paintings for a wedding in 3 months time…around work. Cups of tea were made and chocolate bought and hey presto….3 months later it was done!

From York, to Italy and Switzerland, I got the chance to depict some beautiful scenes from their travels together and I was overjoyed when the bride saw the final result. To quote… ‘It was the only part of wedding planning I got excited about!’ I was keen that the bride wasn’t going to be stressed about the outcome of the results, and so we worked together over the months to select the locations she wanted and shared stories so I could add some personal touches within the scenes, including a few ‘in jokes’ between the couple. I wanted the process to be fun for them, not stressful, so I’m glad I managed to achieve that.
